International Day of People with Disability

Resources for churches, schools and the wider community

In October 1992 the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring that December 3rd each year will be the International Day of Disabled Persons. In 1997 the event was renamed International Day of People with a DisAbility by Australian community representatives, to place greater emphasis on the abilities and achievements of people living with disabilities.

I invite you to use the enclosed resources in your worship, in a small group, or for personal devotion on a Sunday or other suitable time close to December 3rd. In doing so may you remember the need for people with disabilities to have their lives affirmed and, where they seek to do so, to be included in their chosen faith communities.

Rev. Trevor Whitney

SACC Task Group on Disability Issues
